Introduction

The birth of the World Wide Web had a massive impact on the world. As a starting point it is easy to identify Tim Berners-Lee and the first web browser, WorldWideWeb. Many important societies and non-profit organizations with different goals were founded in the 1990s in relation to the Web and the Internet. The most important ones are the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), the Internet Society and the Internet Archive. Other important events related to the rise of the World Wide Web, economics and law in particular are the Telecom Act and the Browser Wars.
